Twenty years ago Lavasan had three photo studios: Sepideh, Amir and Photo Riahi. All three were on Lavasan’s main boulevard but around ten years ago Photo Riahi moved to a new shopping arcade called Golestan Passage. Nowadays business at Photo Riahi – run by Mohammed Khazrai, the grandson of the founder is slow and he only opens up for a couple of hours in the evening. Back when Mohammed’s mother, Mrs. Riahi, ran the studio, they would open all day serving their mainly Afghan clientele. The conversations below took place in Lavasan in the winter of 2016.
This book was published on the occasion of the (Photo Riahi) Exhibition at Dastan’s Basement in June 2017.
