My pairs of figures started with the “Farhad and I” theme. In the beginning, in 1959, these were executed in drawings and paintings and were soon followed by sculptures. In all of these series, I was standing next to Farhad and we were holding each other’s hands or placing our arms on each other’s shoulders. At the time, my intention was to express my devotion through imagery and volume and then show the results to the public. During the last two decades, two more themes have supplemented my lovers. One is the “lovers’ hands”. The other is “Heech” lovers.
