Mehrdad Afsari (b. 1977, Khoy, Iran) is a photographer, documentarian, and video artist. He has received his BFA in Photography in 2000 and his MFA in Photography from the Tehran University of Art in 2006. He has been teaching at the Tehran University of Art for 16 years. He is an honorary member of the Iranian Visual Arts Society. Since 2000, Afsari has held 15 solo exhibitions and his works have been exhibited in more than 100 auctions and exhibitions, such as Venice Biennial in Italy, Paris Photo in France, Contemporary Istanbul in Turkey, Queens Museum of Art in the USA, The Reina Sofia Museum in Spain, Georgia Museum of Art, and the University of Westminster in London. Afsari has been also the jury member, lecturer, and curator of numerous national and international festivals and exhibitions. His works have been published in several domestic and foreign publications. In his work, he often explores philosophical, existential themes. Afsari lives and works in Tehran.
